Masking is practiced in majority by heterosexual men and employs realistic silicone
costumes imitating female body. Although the idea of entering someone else’s skin
may seem merely an erotic, uncanny extravaganza, Masking is rooted in ideology
far from entertainment. What Masking is based on, is the idea that human identity
consists of two genders instead of only one, whereas identity is understood as
a matter of individual choice in place of bestowed or imposed quality.
In consequence, the community has been gathering those who argue against the
common social and political conventions that are vastly rooted in binary understanding
of gender, identity and body. Whereas a Mask is not only a mere fetish, but is treated as
a manifest of non-binaryness and a symbol of individual’s freedom.
